About This Site

This site has been created as a brief public introduction to my research surrounding the life and work of Dr. Herman Lynn Womack (1923-1985), a gay publishing and First Amendment pioneer who ran the Guild Press from 1958 to 1972.  Rarely using his first name, Womack was known in writing as “H. Lynn Womack” and to his friends simply as “Lynn.”

Excerpts from my research have previously been published as essays in the anthologies The Golden Age of Gay Fiction and 1960s Gay Pulp Fiction: The Misplaced Heritage.  I am currently in the final stages of completing a biography of H. Lynn Womack.

You can find out more about Womack, this project, and who I am by clicking on the tabs near the top of the page. I  welcome all inquiries about this research, and I am particularly interested in speaking with anyone who knew or interacted with Dr. Womack.  (If you would like to speak with me for the biography, but do not want your name used publicly, that is perfectly fine; some interviewees request a pseudonym, which I will happily provide.)  Click the “Contact” tab at the top of the page for more information, e-mail me directly at philipclark@hotmail.com, or use the contact form below.  Thank you!
